Robotics

Titus Walker teaches local kids how to drive a robot.

Our company is called Dashing Tigers, Inc.  We are the robotics team at Monroeville Junior High School in Monroeville, Alabama.  Our team is very diverse.  We have 2 sixth graders, 12 seventh graders, and 25 eighth graders.  On our team, we have 25 Black members and 10 White members.  There are 21 boys and 18 girls.  There are only 12 returning members from the team that competed in Friends of Best competition in March 2010.

We have had a lot of support from our school.  Our sponsors are the seventh and eighth grade science teachers, Mrs. Kathy Stacey and Mrs. Jena Mayo.  Last year, they encouraged us to participate in the Friends of B.E.S.T competition, "The Great Freight Challenge".  As a team, we won several awards, including: the Team Work Award, Third Place Robot, Second Place Marketing Presentation, Second Place Engineering Notebook, and the First Place Five Star Award (equivalent to the BEST award).

On October 28th and 29th, we were back in action at our first "big" BEST competition at USA in Mobile.  We exceeded our own expectations and placed 5th out of 44 schools.  Our marketing booth placed 3rd.  We placed 5th in the Engineering Notebook.  The marketing presentation team came in 8th place.  We earned 8th place in Spirit and Sportsmanship.  This earned us a spot in South's BEST at Auburn University on December 2nd and 3rd.  Our robot, Trigger 410,  needed a lot of improvements after our competition in Mobile, so we have been hard at work.  We hope that we will do much better in Auburn and represent our school and community well!
